EXCLUSIVE: Reba McEntire Reveals the Sentimental Style Behind Her Home

by Kelsi Karruli

Reba McEntire’s home tells a story—and she has a very personal style that brings it all together.

The country star say in her home, she has rodeo and ranching keepsakes, and reminders of her Oklahoma upbringing.

Speaking exclusively to Realtor.com®, McEntire reveals the sentimental approach behind her decorating choices, the household splurges she considers worth every penny, and why she never wants visitors to feel afraid to get comfortable.

“I'm a country girl at heart, and I love having things around me that tell a story,” she says.

For McEntire, that means surrounding herself with belongings that reflect her experiences and the people who matter most to her.

“So when I bring people into my home, I call it my African cowboy home because I've got my pictures from Africa that I took and then I've got my rodeo ranching things that I've had around me all my life,” she explains.

Those personal touches take priority over decorating purely for appearances.

“I've always believed the home ought to reflect the people living in it, not just what somebody thinks looks pretty,” she says.

McEntire’s reflections come as she continues her partnership with Realtor.com, which launched its “Nearly Home” campaign on May 5, 2025.

The sitcom-inspired ads draw on real homebuyers’ experiences, using humor and practical solutions to make the home-buying journey feel more approachable.

In her own home, however, some of the most important belongings are things she could never replace.

“I'm very sentimental, especially when it comes to family keepsakes, pictures, little things that remind me of mom and daddy, of course, memories of growing up in Oklahoma,” she says.

While furniture can come and go, those connections have lasting value.

“You can always buy new furniture, but you can't replace those memories,” she adds.

Her appreciation for home begins the moment she walks through the front door, when she takes a moment to give thanks before settling in.

“Well, I thank the Lord for getting me home safely, and I put down all my stuff and, just get ready for whatever the rest of the day brings,” she shares.

Although family keepsakes are among her most treasured possessions, McEntire also knows the value of investing in everyday comfort.

When it comes to a home splurge that has proved worth every penny, her answer comes easily. “Oh, without a doubt, a comfortable bed,” she says.

For someone who spends time traveling, returning to her own familiar sleeping setup is a pleasure in itself.

“I spent a lot of time traveling, and there's nothing better than coming home and crawling into your own bed with your own pillow,” she explains.

Another purchase that earns her approval is a good ice machine—a fitting choice given her fondness for iced tea, which she names as something she always keeps in the refrigerator.

Her favorite room is equally straightforward: “Kitchen.”

But McEntire’s ideal day at home does not require an elaborate itinerary or much fuss. “I think I'm pretty low maintenance, but that might surprise somebody,” she says.

“I'm the happiest in comfortable clothes, no makeup on, just relaxing out on the back porch.”

That outdoor retreat includes a particular feature she enjoys. “I've got a real cool porch swing, and I don't need a lot of fuss,” she adds.

A few simple comforts are enough to keep her content.

“Give me good company, something good to eat, and a little peace and quiet, and I'm a happy camper,” she says.

That easygoing attitude also informs the decorating choices she avoids. McEntire has little interest in interiors that make people feel as though they need to tiptoe around.

“Anything that makes a house look like you're afraid to sit on the furniture or walk on the carpet,” she says of the decorating approach she would never try.

In fact, her biggest houseguest pet peeve is someone who does not settle in.

“Someone who doesn't make themselves at home, you know, come on in, get comfortable,” she says.

Asked to describe her home in two words, McEntire offers an answer that captures that philosophy: “warm and welcoming.”

The same sense of comfort and belonging underpins the “Nearly Home” campaign, which pairs McEntire’s humor with relatable homebuying situations and tools designed to help people navigate their search.

The campaign launched ahead of McEntire’s role hosting the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards, connecting with country music fans as the spring home shopping season got underway. McEntire also debuted her newest single live onstage during the awards.

The ads highlight features such as commute filters, which help buyers check drive times from a potential home, and dynamic maps that let them explore factors including lot size and schools. Through familiar challenges and accessible solutions, the campaign aims to make finding a home feel easier—and more fun.

Now, McEntire is bringing her storytelling to NAR NXT in New Orleans. She will appear in the general session, “The Real Deal: Strategy & Storytelling With Reba McEntire,” on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
